On this blog, we used to post information about our visits to the border at Roxham Road, USA side. Since the closure of Roxham Road on Friday 24 March 2023, we're attempting to keep a log of the info we have about refugees who have been returned to the US. |
Sunday, June 17th, 2018. Afternoon, Roxham Road, USA.
A hot humid day. On arrival the RCMP officer spoke with us and told us that only 8 people had arrived so far that day. He said that there had been fewer people arriving over the last while which reflects our observations. While we were there only one group of people arrived at the border. It was a family from Nigeria: mother, father, a boy and a girl under 10 years of age and a girl aged 11. They had been living in the USA before coming to Roxham. They were all very stressed. We offered them water. The boy had to take some medication and took the water gratefully. The RCMP officer was polite and stuck to the protocol. The 11 year old girl crossed after the rest of her family and was afraid. The officer told her not to worry she would not be separated from her family.
