Sunday June 3rd, 2018. 3.50 pm - 4.50 pm
It was a pleasant warm day. There was enhanced scrutiny concerning our presence in the USA due we believe to the protest - by groups from the far right coming from Ontario and Quebec at Roxham Road Canada side. We were held at the Hemmingford crossing for over 30 minutes while US border officials checked our identities and searched the car. After we arrived at Roxham Road, US side a state trooper lieutenant come and spoke with us. Then a state trooper car with two officers stationed themselves beside our car. Because we were delayed at the border, we were only able to witness the crossing of one group of refugees. They spoke English and were probably of African origin and consisted of two men, one woman, a young boy and a young girl. They were treated according to protocol by the RCMP. Its very unfortunate that the BnB welcome sign - which had been erected on private land with the full knowledge of the local RCMP - has been removed. We were told this order came from higher up in the command.
