On this blog, we used to post information about our visits to the border at Roxham Road, USA side. Since the closure of Roxham Road on Friday 24 March 2023, we're attempting to keep a log of the info we have about refugees who have been returned to the US. We're also now posting blogs about our personal experiences at the border. Sunday, March 4th 2018, 3.45 pm - 5pm. Roxham Road, USA. A total of eight people crossed over into Canada. The first was a Nigerian woman in her 50's who had been living for some time in the US. She was very stressed and in tears as she prepared to cross and very appreciative of some warm things. Next came a Nigerian woman with her adult son. She said they had been living in New York City for a few months. As they were preparing to cross the RCMP officer tried to convince them to go to Lacolle border saying ' Do you want to start your life in Canada with a criminal record?'. Next came a family from the Democratic Republic of Congo: mother, grandmother and two young children- a girl about 6 years old and a boy about 4 years old. The mother had an 8 month old baby on her back. The officer helped them to get their luggage across the border.
